The Golden Land,Myanmar

Mingalaba!

DSC_4980.JPGIf you want to explore something different that is outside your comfort zone, Yangon would be a good place to visit.  There are a lot more places to visit outside of Yangon, for instance Began (hot air balloon & old historical sites). As it was only a short trip for me, I explored around Yangon city.

More than 50% of the population in Myanmar practice Buddhism, hence there will be a lot of historical temples around. I managed to visit the famous Golden Pagoda called Shwedagon Pagoda Yangon during the night. Picture below shows only a part of the Pagoda.

During the day, traffic is really bad going around on foot allows you to see more.

Walking around the city, you may notice lots of street vendor and local delicacies.

Picture below shows the “Betel Nut” where most local chew on it and their mouth would be stained Red. It is like some sort of chewing gum which helps to keep them awake.

Aside from street vendor, they definitely have local shops with menu where you are able to try their local traditional noodles.

  • 999 Shan Noodle Shop DSC06084.JPG
  • The Lucky Seven SONY DSCDSC06222.JPGOne of my favourite would be the Mohinga (Fish Curry Noodle).
  • Taing Ying Thar [Myanmar National Restaurant]DSC_4983.JPG
  • Min Lann Rakhine Seafood Restaurant – Apparently they have a few branches around Yangon and it is pretty pack most of the time. DSC_4989.JPG

yup, I would go back again few years down the road to see how different Yangon would be with the urban development plans they have in place. Also, to explore other parts of Myanmar.
